A Story Worth Telling.
Faith. Flowers. And the people whose lives are changed by both.
The mission behind the blooms.
Every year, thousands of pounds of fresh flowers — arrangements that filled wedding receptions, corporate events, church celebrations, and some of the most meaningful moments in people's lives — get left behind when the lights come up and the guests go home. They sit in empty venues, get swept into trash bags, and disappear without a second thought. Meanwhile, just miles away, seniors in memory care facilities are spending their days without a single fresh flower in sight. Veterans are sitting quietly in common rooms. Women are rebuilding their lives in shelters. Cancer patients are walking through something hard and heavy and isolating. And nobody is bringing them anything beautiful. We could not look away from that disconnect. So, we did something about it.
And the moments that happen when those arrangements walk through a door? We wish you could see them. A grandmother in memory care who has not reached for anything in days reaches out both hands the moment she sees the flowers. A veteran who has been sitting quietly in the corner of a common room looks up and smiles in a way that makes the staff catch their breath. A woman in a shelter receives an arrangement and just holds it for a minute — because someone thought of her. Someone took the time. Someone made sure she knew she was not forgotten.
Those moments are why we do this. Every single week. With everything we have.
Where Every Bloom Finds Its Purpose.
Petals of Light OK is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in Edmond, Oklahoma, by Sara and a circle of like-minded hearts who shared one deeply held conviction — that beauty should never go to waste and that no person should ever feel forgotten. Guided by faith and carried forward entirely by volunteers, we collect donated flowers from weddings, events, florists, venues, and flower farms across the Oklahoma City metro area. Our volunteers reimagine those blooms into hand-crafted arrangements made with intention, care, and prayer — and deliver them personally and completely free of charge to the people and communities who need a moment of unexpected light most.
Since our founding we have delivered over 700 arrangements to memory care facilities, nursing homes, assisted living communities, hospice settings, veterans' homes, women's shelters, and cancer treatment centers across the greater OKC area. We serve 9 care communities and counting. And every single delivery — from the first bloom collected to the last arrangement placed in someone's hands — costs the donor, the recipient, and every partner involved absolutely nothing.
Leading with faith, care, and kindness.
We believe this story belongs to more people than the ones already in the room.
Somewhere out there is a bride who has no idea her flowers could mean something beyond the last song of the night. Somewhere there is a florist who has been sweeping stems off the floor after every event and wondering if there is a better way. Somewhere there is a daughter who just moved her mother into memory care and is quietly heartbroken about how lonely that world can feel. And somewhere there is a journalist, a podcast host, a content creator, or a storyteller who has been looking for the kind of story that reminds people why community still matters.
We are not a big organization. We do not have a massive budget or a polished PR team or a fancy office. What we have is Sara and Chris and a circle of volunteers who show up every single week with willing hands and full hearts — and a mission that keeps growing because the right people keep finding it and refusing to walk away from it.
Come see what a single bloom can do.
We could tell you about the moment a senior reaches out for an arrangement with both hands. We could describe the look on a veteran's face when flowers walk into a room he has been sitting in quietly for weeks. We could paint a picture of a woman in a shelter holding a bouquet to her face and closing her eyes for just a moment — because something beautiful found her on a day she needed it most.
But honestly? Words are the least efficient way to tell this story.
We would love to invite you in. Sit with us at the arranging table and watch volunteers pour their hearts into every stem they touch. Ride along on a delivery and witness firsthand what happens the moment we walk through a door. Meet the residents, the staff, the coordinators, and the partners whose lives intersect with this mission every single week in ways that are quiet and ordinary and absolutely extraordinary all at once.
Bring your camera. Bring your microphone. Bring your notebook. Or just bring yourself and see what happens. We have never had anyone come along on a delivery and leave unchanged by it — and we do not expect you will be the first.
We will handle every detail. We will bring the flowers. All you have to do is say yes.
